Because the past is the path to the future

The Historical Research Center for the Natural Health Movement (HRCNHM) honors the legacy of the Lloyd brothers, John Uri, Nelson Ashley, and Curtis Gates Lloyd, who started the Lloyd Library in the late 19th century as a reference and research library for their natural products based pharmaceutical company. It is a natural outgrowth of the mission of the Lloyd Library and Museum, an institution which already houses over 200,000 volumes of historic and contemporary books and journals covering topics such as alternative therapies, aromatherapy, botany, chemistry, complementary medicine, eclectic and sectarian medicine, ethnobotany, folk medicine, gardening, herbal medicine, horticulture, materia medica, natural products, perfumes and cosmetics, pharmaceutical industry, pharmacognosy, pharmacy, phytomedicine, and more; as well as nearly 1,000 linear feet of archival and special collections materials, which provide information on the historic aspects of the Lloyds, their pharmacy, pharmaceutical development, pharmacognosy, chemistry, and herbalism, including the papers of:

This new initiative establishes the Lloyd Library and Museum as THE principal repository worldwide for the archives and personal papers of all individuals, groups, organizations and associations, schools and colleges, businesses, etc. involved in both scientific and grass roots endeavors to bring natural health into the mainstream. It allows for the central collection, preservation, and maintenance of such materials in an appropriate setting with space and environmental controls, as well as care and access control by a professional staff of librarians and archivists.

We invite all those involved in the natural health movement, either individuals or institutions, to consider depositing their historical papers with the Historical Research Center for the Natural Health Movement at the Lloyd Library and Musem.
